Amber Mostoller…

Full name, age, event, and circuit?
Amber Lee Mostoller, 25 years old, Barrel Racer
PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assoc) Great Lakes Circuit
IPRA (International Professional Rodeo Assoc) Northeast Region
APRA (American Professional Rodeo Assoc)
CSRA (Central States Rodeo Assoc)
SRA (Southern Rodeo Assoc)
MSRA (Mid States Rodeo Assoc)
ACRA (American Cowboys Rodeo Assoc)
IBRA (International Barrel Racing Assoc)
What age did you get involved in Rodeo?
Both my parents rodeoed for a living, so I grew up in rodeo and around it.
Why did you decided to pursue rodeo?
I don’t think I ever really “pursued” rodeo, it found me! It’s an addiction that comes with extreme highs and the lowest of lows. It has always been a part of my life, & I can’t imagine my life without it
Please name your career highlights (or the ones that mean the most to you).
2X IFR Qualifier
1995 BBRA Youth Champion (won my first saddle)
2007 Northeast Region Champion
2008 APRA Reserve Champion
Making the Short go the last two years in St Tite, QU
What are you 2009 goals both personal and in the arena?
I would like to make the IFR again this year & the Great Lakes Circuit Finals. I will be on many different horses this year, and my goal is always to be able to ride each horse to the best of their ability, and to represent myself in a way that kids can look up to
How would you describe yourself?
I’m independent, strong willed, opinionated and stubborn. I like to stay open minded and I would do anything to help a friend in need. My mom always tells me that she loves the ambition that I have.
I am very dedicated to what I believe in and work hard. There is a quote from Marilyn Monroe that I love, which I think describes me well “I’m selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times am hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best! “
At this point in your career, how do you pick and choose between rodeos?
Added money is the major factor. I try to hit as many rodeos in the same area as I can to limit the wear and tear on my horses. I also try to keep notes from year to year on ground conditions, hospitality, etc to help me decide where I want to go.
What is something you cant live without, when you are on the road?
MEMPHIS!!! (My 6 year old mini Australian shepherd)
Favorite food?
Is chocolate considered a food???
Other hobbies?
Are there really any other hobbies when you rodeo? Ha! I enjoy working out, going to the beach, hanging out with friends and of course my baby, Memphis (my dog)
Who do you look up to in your event?
My mother
What horses are in your trailer at the moment?
Instant Victory aka Dorey * Dorey is a 11 year old bay mare registered Quarter Horse. I have had her a week now and she has been a dream. She is very sweet and super smooth to ride. I will be riding her until sold and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together!
What rodeo do you look forward to the most and why?
Hands down…St Tite, QU. It is the largest IPRA rodeo of the year with $15,000 added. There is nothing like running down that alley Saturday night into that arena. The crowd and atmosphere is amazing!
What would you tell a Rookie starting out in the rodeo world today?
It sounds cliche, but Don’t ever give up on your dreams. Be patient! Things are not always going to go your way, and you will come across MANY rough roads in your travels. Remember, everything happens for a reason. If He leads you to, He will get you through it!
Docs Idaho Gold aka Mighty Mouse * Mighty Mouse is a 10 year old Dun Mare registered Quarter Horse. I bought her as a 5 year old and sold her at the IFR in 2008. She has now found herself a happy home with Mesa and Shiloh Leavitt! At 11 years old Shiloh is doing awesome on Mighty Mouse taking a 4th place finish in East Lansing, MI at their first rodeo together. Mighty Mouse and I accomplished alot together including 2 IFR qualifications a well as a Great Lakes Circuit Qualification. I will be able to run Mighty Mouse on and off this year and look forward to seeing her excel with Shiloh as well!
