Date, Rodeo Name and Location

March 7th * St Lucie County Fair & Rodeo * Ft Pierce, FL 

 Which horse did you run?

I ran Dorey, which was the mare I won Cleveland, OH on.  I have been going through some bit changes with Dorey because the bit I was using was cutting her mouth.  It actually made her mouth so sore that I decided to run her in a hackamore (which is not bit at all, with nose band)  It’s a big change and typically makes horses stiffer.  Dorey is not used to having anything over her nose either, so it took her a little bit to get used to the pressure of it.

How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?

When most people think of Florida rodeos they think of DEEP, SANDY, BIG pens…although this pen is big…that’s as far as the stereotype goes.  The ground is typically harder than deep, and is red clay, not sand.  There is no intermission at this rodeo, so we do not get in the arena before we run.

Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly. Exactly how you felt about it.

Every time I run Dorey, I am more and more impressed with her.  She is very gritty and tries really hard.  She came in the pen hard, but I just wasn’t aggressive enough on her.  She did her job, but I didn’t do mine.  I hit the 1st barrel (bummer) but she is working very well especially with all the changes I have been throwing at her. 

 Comments about the rodeo?

This is normally a VERY good rodeo and one of the bigger rodeos of the year, but also one of the furthest away.  With that being said WE (the barrel racers) were VERY pissed off that they did not have a timer that worked, which means that they used stopped watches.  With that much money on the line it is very discouraging to know that our times are left up to stop watches and human error.  FUN NOTE * Shiloh and Mighty Mouse kicked butt again placing 3rd

 Anything interesting happen on the trip there or back?

When I left off the last time, I had lost my wallet (money, credit card, drivers license etc) and was having a COME APART…so yeah…I got a text that next morning saying they had found my wallet in the drive way of the place we were staying before Pendleton, luckily Cari covered my butt and loaned me money for the weekend (luv ya girl)   So on the way to Ft Pierce I knew I was going to have to do my part of the driving (normally not a problem but Grants truck was a 6 speed)  I have driven a 6 speed before but I HATE it lol.  I tried to get out of driving because I didn’t have my drivers license (the boys said nice try but I was driving haha)  So I took over driving around 4:30am and drove us into Florida.  I drove us into Florida right past the INSPECTION STATION at the border…which by law you have to stop at when bringing horses in or out of the state.  Normally if you miss the station you are swarmed within 5 minutes and escorted back to the station so they can check your horses health papers and coggins.  I was not swarmed and never thought about it until everyone started waking up and realized I had forgot to stop.  The guys started panicking BIG TIME and were really starting to scare me with going to jail blah blah blah lol.  I tracked down the number for the inspection station and called them and they said no problem just make sure we stop on the way out, but they were surprised as well that no one came after us   When we got to Ft Pierce we discovered the boys parked next to us had also ran the same inspection station and no one came after them either (guess the people were sleeping on the job) YEAH FOR US!!  We left Ft Pierce immediately after the barrel racing to make the 12 hour trip to Huntsville, AL for the 2:00pm performance on Sunday….
