Spencer Turner, Winning Ride at IFR 2009

 On Friday March 6th I competed in the Southeastern Livestock Expo and Rodeo. It was a PRCA rodeo in Montgomery, Alabama
 
Which horse did you draw?
 

I drew a little sorrel horse…. 32 Beaver Bait from Brookman rodeo company
 
Stock Contractor?

Stace Smith is the main contractor but he brings in some stock from Brookman and Korkow for this rodeo
 
How was your horse in the chute?
 
It was OK. She didn’t really act up too much.
 
 Did you learn about the horse before hand?
 
I had called a couple bronc riders who had been on her. They both had different stories of what she did and what they would do different next time so I pretty much knew as much about her before I called than after, but that is all part of it.
 
 Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

When I nodded she stalled and they tapped her and she kinda reared out of the chute, I marked her out good, but then it got a little hairy. She put her head on the ground and kinda pulled me down a little, but not a big deal I just kept spurring her. We had 2 or 3 good jumps of her kicking out and bucking hard. After that she pulled me down over the front again but I was not that bad outta shape. I threw my upper body back and really threw my feet to the front to recover, but I guess I threw my feet too hard because I actually spurred over her neck with my left foot, at that point is when the bronc and I parted ways. Which was a good thing cause I could have very easily broke my leg, I would take a no score over a broken leg any day! Scotty said that maybe I shouldn’t have tried so hard. It’s all good though, I am still blessed to be out here on the road, win or lose. The Glory still goes to God for the opportunity to be out here.
 
 
Comments about the rodeo? committee, hospitality, etc

It was my first time to attend the rodeo in Montgomery. They added $5000 in each event and there were 42 bronc riders so it definitely would have made for a great payday.
