Spencer Turner, Winning Ride at IFR 2009

Date, Rodeo Name and Location?

On Feb 28th I was entered in the Federation West Championship PRCA Rodeo in Sedalia, Missouri

Which horse did you draw?

 I drew a little bay horse……. H14 Air Guitar

Stock Contractor?

The stock contractor at Sedalia was JS ProRodeo from Minnesota

How was your horse in the chute?

He was a little nervous, they had him tied in but he never tried the rope that much.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?

I didn’t find out too much info about him on the computer so I made a few phone calls. The guy I talked to said that he thought he was just a good horse, a fellow I know had him in Fort Worth rodeo earlier this year and bucked him off. I noticed that H14 the horse I was getting on Saturday was also out Friday as well. I drove to the rodeo on Friday to watch my horse and get a game plan. Friday he was a real bear in the chute and the kid kinda had a hard time with him. When he bucked he really didn’t put his head on the ground and he actually didn’t buck that hard either. He was really throwing his head around and making it hard for that kid and eventually threw the kid off.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

The horse reared out pretty good, which he didn’t do on Friday. Then he began throwing his head around and being kinda phony headed like he was the night before. He quit throwing his head and kinda hopped in a circle to the right. I felt like I rode him well. My left foot never missed a beat and the right foot started out not getting very high in the neck but by the end of the ride it was up high where it’s supposed to be. The horse was not real strong and didn’t buck that hard. He was not breaking over that well and which means that he didn’t help me one bit and I had to do all the work to spur, instead of him breaking over and bucking hard and helping throw my feet back to help spur. I scored a 75 and split 4 to win $102.00.

Comments about the rodeo? committee, hospitality, etc.

The rodeo adds $1000 in each event and there were 16 bronc riders entered. They provide food and drinks for the contestants and it is very nice. It is held in a little coliseum on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Friday and Saturday both had great crowds.

What CD is in your cd player at the moment?

I’m not sure what is in my cd player at the moment. I left my truck in West Palm Beach Florida and flew up to this rodeo (because I have a rodeo in Florida 50 miles from West Palm Beach on Thursday so there was no need in me driving back up here and turning around and driving right back down there for a rodeo on Thursday).

I had a great weekend visiting with friends and hanging out. I had a blast. I know that the past few weeks I have been riding good but not placing and winning any money, but I know that everything happens for a reason. I know that I am riding very well and I am very confident in the abilities that the Lord has given to me to ride bucking horses. I just have to be patient and keep rodeo’n and be positive :)

How was your horse in the chute?

He was great, tied him in and he didn’t fight it at all. I actually had to sit on him for awhile and wait for them to get a horse out of the arena.

Did you learn about the Horse before hand?

Yes, I talked to Jared Smith about the horse. He is a young horse and this was his first out in 2009.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought he would?

The horse blew out, raring up and lost his footing a bit. He then jumped up and kicked really nice. I spurred him well and felt good. I scored a 79, I wasn’t in the money but was proud of my ride.

Comments about the rodeo? Committee? Hospitality?

The rodeo was great; it was my first time there. The committee was outstanding and the hospitality was really good. The crowd was great and overall the rodeo was really nice.

What type of jeans did you wear?

Wrangler

What CD is in your truck right now?

A mixed CD of rock and roll and old country.
