Spencer Turner Talks To On The Rodeo Road..

Spencer Turner, Winning Ride at IFR 2009
Tell us about one of your most memorable rides?
Even though I didn’t have a good showing, I think competing at the Dodge National Circuit Finals in Pocatello, Idaho was a good memory. When I won the PRCA Southeastern Circuit Finals was good. I didn’t know any of the three horses I got on, which may have helped me. I went into the last round 2 points behind in the average and drew a horse called Alma. She was honest as the day is long, they said she would just jump and kick down the pen and would really bucky. I was kinda confident about getting on her, when I climbed on her I looked back at a buddy on the chutes and said “watch this”. I rode her really good and was 82 points which isn’t a just super outstanding score but it let me win the Finals Average by 8 points. I walked away from there with a go-round buckle, a circuit rookie buckle, a Finals Average buckle and two pockets full of cash. Winning two of the four rounds at the International Finals Rodeo as a rookie was a good memory too.
Even though it’s a regional amateur rodeo association the United Rodeo Association finals was a good memory to. I had started rodeoing in that association when I started and wasn’t really that good. I had watched a lot of my friends win the finals average. I didn’t rodeo in that association for almost 4 years, then I bought my card back and went to 9 rodeos and won or placed at them all. At the finals I had a good showing and won reserve champion and won the finals average, which was neat because all the friends who had won it before, where there along with my family, so that was really neat. There have been a lot of memorable rides but that is a few for now!
