Spencer Turner, Winning Ride at IFR 2009

Date, Rodeo Name and Location
Thursday May 14th I attended the Franklin Rodeo in Franklin, Tennessee

Which horse did you draw?
I drew a big bay mare branded 145 and called Faded Charm

Stock Contractor?
The horse I drew came from the J-J string but Gold Buckle was the primary contractor at the rodeo

How was your horse in the chute?
She was standing OK. She is a big horse so she took up a lot of the chute. They put a neck rope on her and tied her in just in case she decided to try something

Did you learn about the horse before hand?
I had heard she was an outstanding bareback horse. They switched her over to the saddle bronc riding and she apparently has been really rank. At Fort Worth they marked her a 23 (out of a possible 25) the contractor said. I was super excited to have her, knowing I could win the rodeo if I did my part.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
When I nodded she came out of the chute pretty hard then she started bucking real great and I was riding her pretty good too. After a few seconds she lost her footing and started to stumble and I thought she was going to flip head over feet. I laid back and waited for her to gather her footing. When she did she exploded extremely high in the air and I spurred her hard. She then proceeded to just get stronger and kick and buck hard. She didn’t cover much ground which is good. I thought I rode her really well. By the sounds of the crowd and the announcer and the guys on the back of the chutes, they thought so too. I got off on the pick-up man was extremely happy. When you ride good and the horse is that good it makes you feel like a million bucks. The down side to the whole thing is that the judge threw a flag on me and disqualified me for missing my mark out. The mark out rule is a rule in place to give the animal the advantage. The rule states the riders spurs must be in contact with the horse in the neck and above the break of the shoulder when the horses front feet hit the ground after leaving the chute. The judge said that when she came out of the chute my spur was in the right place but when she hit the ground but my foot didn’t stay and it fell down a slight bit. I was disappointed because I knew I just spurred a bad bronc and I wanted to win the rodeo. But all in all I am still happy that I was blessed enough to ride her and I am extremely blessed and give all the Glory to God for giving me the talent and opportunity to rodeo.

Comments about the rodeo? committee, hospitality, etc.
The rodeo committee is great and they provide great food for the contestants. The rodeo added $3500 in the saddle bronc riding and is a very good rodeo I think.
