Day 6 Rodeo Roundup Calgary Stampede

news2

TIE-DOWN ROPING

Trevor Brazile has pulled out all the stops to make sure he has a great time at the Calgary Stampede.

It’s paying off.

Brazile, whose resume boasts pretty much everything but a win in Calgary, was tops in the tie-down roping for the second day in a row.

He did it in spectacular fashion Wednesday, too, tying an arena record with a 6.5 seconds.

“My wife (Shada) filmed every calf (Tuesday) so even though he was missed, I knew exactly what start I needed to take to get the fastest throw,” said Brazile, of Decatur, Tex. “It’s like statistics. If you’re going to guard somebody in basketball, you want to know their tendencies, and it’s the same thing in rodeo.

“She did all the work. I just had to do my job.”

Brazile collected $5,500 for the second day in a row.

Second was Ryan Jarrett of Summerville, Ga, followed by Stran Smith of Childress, Tex.

STEER WRESTLING

Dean Gorsuch watched an unpredictable batch of steers cause troubles for his bulldogging buddies.

His assignment did exactly what he wanted — ran slow and rolled over easy.

Gorsuch, a former world champ from Gering, Neb., spiked his steer in 3.8 seconds, cashing a cheque for the second consecutive day at the Calgary Stampede.

Gorsuch sits atop the Pool B steer wrestling aggregate with $8,500 in earnings through two go-rounds.

Todd Suhn of Weatherford, Tex., was second with a clocking of 3.9 seconds. Ken Lewis of La Junta, Colo., and Luke Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., split the third-place payout after identical times of 4.5…..(read more)

 What horse did you draw?

 Stock Contractor?
American Rodeo Company

Did you know about the Horse?
I saw him last year in Canada. I was real excited about getting on him, he is a real good horse.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
Well the horse wasn’t as good as I had hoped. He was a hopper and just didn’t perform the way I had wished he would have, plus they didn’t get a good flank on him either. It could have been better, but I still scored a 77 and placed 3rd.

Rodeo committee?
The Rodeo Committee was absolutely the BEST EVER! I cant say enough good things about this rodeo, and the rodeo committee. It is a new rodeo, with this being its 2nd year, and they have done such a good job with it.  They treat the contestants wonderful, they have a party afterward, and they do whatever they can to help us. They will come and get the contestants at the airport and take them back, it is just amazing. I am glad to be a part of this rodeo!

Bismarck Tribune

A barrel horse that won the recent Dickinson Roughrider Rodeo and took third at Killdeer’s Fourth of July rodeo Saturday was stolen from a South Dakota rodeo grounds Sunday and abused, if not tortured.

The 12-year-old Dually remains under a veterinarian’s care in South Dakota, where it was taken Sunday afternoon after its owner and the Stanley County (S.D.) sheriff were informed where it had been dropped off in a holding pen.

The horse was taken from a rodeo pen at Fort Pierre, S.D., sometime after 4:30 a.m. Sunday and discovered several hours later in a pen in town, said Sheriff Brad Rathbun….(read more)
