Police aren’t saying anything today about their investigation into a horse, named Dually, that was allegedely stolen from its pen and severely abused.

KSFY Action News caught up with some close friends of Dually’s owners to see how the horse is doing.

Dually is owned by Wendy Halweg who attends many rodeos with her horse. Wendy did not comment today on the situation, but we did talk to her boyfriend, Travis Beshen. Travis told KSFY Action News that Wendy is doing well and that what’s being said about Dually’s injuries has tunred into a game of “Telephone” that keeps growing. (read more)

Did you know about the Horse?
I drew 205 Cross Fire, and heard the horse was real good. I was anxious to get on him.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
Well the horse was real bad in the box. Reared up 2 or 3 times, wasn’t good at all, then he tried to smash me. So I just wanted to get on with the ride, and nodded, and he beat me out of the box.  The ride just wasn’t going well so I double grabbed and got off.

Rodeo committee?
The rodeo committee was real good, and it was a good rodeo.

Cowboys hope they're going down the road to the National Finals Rodeo

news2

By Mike Oatley Trail-Gazette
Friday, July 10, 2009

Every kid who straps on a football helmet dreams of one day playing in the Super Bowl. And every kid who climbs onto the back of a saddle bronc or a bucking bull dreams of getting to Las Vegas for the National Finals Rodeo.

Estes Park is a long way from Vegas but among the cowboys passing through town this week for the Rooftop Rodeo are bound to be a couple who eventually get to the NFR.

One of them might be Chance Honey, a 22-year-old steer wrestler from La Junta. Honey is in his first year on the pro rodeo circuit and he’s not a good bet to get to there this year, and at least not as a competitor. But he is hanging around second or third in the rookie standings, and coming out on top would get him to Vegas for a buckle presentation.

It would be an important feather in his cap: it would help him attract the sponsorship needed to keep going down the road at the rate of 10 months of year, instead of just the three summer months. He presently has no sponsorship. (read more)

Calgary Stampede, Rain, Rain go away…Danyelle Campbell

news2

July 9th, 2009 by Danyelle Campbell

Day 3 for Pool B was actually better than expected after last night’s rain.  It was rather cool outside, but the arena conditions weren’t bad and there were fast times and high scores in every event.  Tammy Fischer smoked through the barrel pattern once again to win the round.  A few of the horses ran a little scared, more than likely from the previous days poor conditions.  It takes some horses a few runs to get their confidence back after a bad go around the barrels.  I put my horse, Repete in this category.  She is only 6 years old and not seasoned in the world of rodeo yet.  The ground has been completely different each of out three runs so far.  That being said, she still placed 4th today for another $2500 check.  I was not thrilled with her run, but am proud of her for trying.  This is a lot to ask of a horse her age and she is a trooper!!!  So far we are 5th  for total money won in our pool, so if we don’t kick it up a notch tomorrow we will be running on “loser Saturday” as the cowboys are calling it!!!  Thanks again to the committee here at Calgary for working at making the conditions safe for us contestants.
