arrest expected in SD horse theft case *justice for Dually and wendy*

PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – Authorities in Stanley County say they expect to make arrests early next week in the theft and suspected abuse of a successful rodeo barrel-racing horse.

The horse owned by rodeo competitor Wendy Halweg of Mitchell was taken from the County Fairgrounds on July 5, after it had competed in the Fort Pierre Rodeo during the Fourth of July. (read more)

Rodeo: Denton roping event to benefit charity

Dirk Webb is a veteran in calf-roping circles who puts on about 20 roping competitions each year. But this year, he felt compelled to do something more.

Webb’s mother, Kay, died in March after a two-year battle with cancer, prompting him to host the inaugural Kay Webb Memorial Roping this weekend at the North Texas State Fairgrounds.

Webb said the event is designed to honor his mother, but also was inspired by the numerous trips he made to Baylor Cancer Center in Dallas, and the patients he visited there during her illness. (read more)
