Casper, Wyo.-There are few records in the annuals of the WPRA that Sherry Cervi has not broken at one time or another. The Marana, Ariz., cowgirl is inching her way towards another one in 2009. Already an 11-time qualifier to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Cervi is looking for another trip to Las Vegas in 2009 – a trip which would put her in a tie for the second most qualifications in the WPRA’s 61-year history.
Cervi took a big step toward cementing her 2009 WNFR berth at the Central Wyoming Fair and Rodeo held in Casper July 7-11. Riding her latest champion, Stingray, Cervi took a pair of second places in the opening and short go rounds to claim the average title by a scant eight one-hundredths of a second. The win was worth $8,700 and moved Cervi into the top five of the current WPRA NFR standings.
Stingray is registered as MP Meter My Hay and was bred, raised, and trained by Cervi. The seven year old palomino mare is by PC Frenchmans Hayday, better known in barrel racing circles as Dinero.(read more)
