Brazile eyes earnings record after Kansas wins

news2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — After a week of driving back and forth through Kansas wheat fields, harvesting money at every stop, Trevor Brazile finds himself ahead of the pace he set in 2007 when he broke the PRCA single-season earnings record.

Talk about separating the wheat from the chaff.

Brazile won all-around titles at Phillipsburg, Kan., and Abilene, Kan., while working his way through the Dodge City (Kan.) Roundup, a silver tier Wrangler Million Dollar Tour event presented by Justin Boots. By the time he got out of Dodge on Sunday night, Brazile had added two more titles and pushed his earnings from a week in the Sunflower State to $16,525.

Brazile paired with Patrick Smith to win the team roping title at Dodge City with a time of 16.1 seconds on three head and added some cash in tie-down roping to finish with $8,107 and win his third all-around title of the weekend. (read more)

The defending world champion saddle bronc rider in the International Professional Rodeo Association took a step at reclaiming the gold buckle Monday evening with an 84-point ride to claim first place at the Cowley County Fair Rodeo.

Sean Prater, who lives just across the Oklahoma border in Osage County, knew little about the Williams and Long bronc that carried him to victory, but that didn’t seem to matter. He easily outscored all of his competitors and also had the highest-marked ride of the rodeo.

“I’ve never been to this guy’s (Matt Williams) rodeos, so I hadn’t been on that horse before. I was told he was a bay horse, and he’d circle to the left. He was a bay horse, and he did circle to the left,” said Prater.

While Prater hit the rodeo circuit pretty hard a year ago, he’s been on a limited schedule this year. (read more)

Amber Mostoller Rodeo Update: July 3rd, Galena, IL

Amber2StTite

This rodeo started my busy month of July.  We took three horsese, I was running Abby, Mesa on Junior and we took one of Mesa’s new horses called Ozzie for her friend Sidney to run.  We get there and I get Abby out of the trailer to find that she had somehow managed to cut the inside of her back leg.  We were in a new trailer and only about an hour from the house so the med kit got left in one of the other trailers along with just about everything else.  I hosed her off, wrapped it in paper tolls and vet wrap and saddled her up.  One thing I really like about Abby is that no matter how many kicks, bumps, or bruises she gets it never seems to make her unsound or effect her performance.  Mesa, Sidney and I all ran 15.4′s and were sitting 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for a long time.  My 15.4 was the slowest and by the end of the weekend I ended up one hole out but was VERY proud of Abby’s run.
