Feathers were flying at the Great Lakes Circuit finals for Blue Moon!!!

Sneaky little Twins

Well folks…the Great Lakes Circuit Finals has started. WHOO HOO!!! The North American Livestock Show was such a highlight for me when I was a little girl and going with my sister ,Tall Bearded Man (my dad) and Southern Lady (my mom). My dad rodeoed every weekend but put that on the back burner when me and Guinness came along. However we always went to the GLC so dad could see all his buddies. To a little kid……it didn’t get much better than the North American Livestock Show. I have many, many memories of this show but one stands out from when I was a little girl. I think Guinness and I were around 4 or 5 and I am sure high on life (and probably cotton candy) walking around the trade show with Mom and Dad. One of the highlights of the trade show for us was the Petting Zoo. Thinking back on it now, it kind of cracks me up, we were farm girls and had all of the animals that were in this little Petting Zoo on our farm at home, but we loved it anyway. The ONE thing in particular that I was completely captivated with was these baby ducks that they had. Now for you guys that haven’t seen the “duck exhibit” let me paint you the picture! Basically what it is is a small aluminum water tank filled with water with a “slide like” contraption in the middle of it. The ducks walk up the slide and at the top is a little tray of duck food, just as soon as they reach out to get a bite, they slide down the slide and then the entire process starts again. Well let me tell ya, as a kid…I thought this was the coolest damn thing….I was absolutely mesmerized. After a while I decided….ONE OF THOSE DUCKS IS COMING HOME WITH ME!!!!!! This is how it went down:

Blue Moon looks at Guinness

Blue Moon: Guinness, I want one of those ducks!

Guinness: BLUE MOON!!! NO!! That is stealing and that is very bad, Mom and Dad would not be happy. No! (Guess who was the goody goody twin??)

Blue Moon: If that man that is sitting there watching the ducks, gets up, I am grabbing one!

Guinness: NO!! You can’t take a duck, this is not good Blue Moon! Not good!

Blue Moon: I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!

Guinness: They are all friends Blue Moon, don’t take one away from it’s friends. It isn’t fair (ohh, now she is gonna try guilt)

Blue Moon: What?? We will give it a great home!! (guilt never worked well with me)

Guinness: They are cute (haha, I need her to help me and I am getting her to come over to my side!!)

Blue Moon: Watch Mom and Dad and make sure they don’t come over here!! EEEKK! The man is getting up! I am making my move!!

I hop over the rope (haha, like a rope is gonna keep me away from a cute little duckling) and grab me a duck out of the water! I sail back over the rope and stuff the duck in my down jacket and zip it up. YIPPPEE! I HAVE THE DUCK, I HAVE THE DUCK!! Oh and there is a HUGE grin on Guinness’s face. She tries to act innocent…she is just as sneaky as me!!

So, after about 20 minutes we leave the trade show and I am so excited, my GRAND MASTER PLAN of duck stealing has WORKED!! We get almost to the truck and all of sudden:

QUACK, QUACK, QUACK (a few feathers come out of my coat) QUACK, QUACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(uh oh)

Tall Bearded Man: What the hell is that???

Blue Moon: I have no idea

Tall Bearded Man: BLUE MOON!!!!!! Young lady, you open that jacket RIGHT NOW!

(this is gonna get bad)

I slowly open my jacket and show the little duckling to my Mom and Dad……….

Twenty minutes later (after a pouty apology to the man that owned the ducks) the duck was back with his friends and enjoying his slide………I however was crying all the way back to the farm….duckless. :(
