National Finals Rodeo: Nevada cowboy wins first round in team roping

LAS VEGAS — Randon Adams has a new partner at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo this year, but the results seem awfully similar to last year when the Nevada cowboy won his first world championship.

Adams, a team roping heeler from Logandale in Southern Nevada and the defending world champion heeler, won the first performance of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Thursday night at Thomas & Mack Center with partner JoJo Lemond of Andrews, Texas.

The two caught their steer in 4.3 seconds, winning $17,139 in the process.

Lemond said he was just happy to have caught the steer, which bolted quickly from the chute and went to the right. Lemond, who said he made a slow start, had to make a long throw that left precious little rope to make his dally.

“That steer kind of squirted me at the gate and I was late (on the barrier),” he said. “I didn’t have much (rope) left. I was afraid I was going to pop it out of my hand.” (read more)
