Hello OTRR Fans, Blue Moon Here! It has been a while since I stopped by to say hello so I thought I would give a shout out to the OTRR fans and let you guys know what Guinness and I have been up to.

I can honestly tell you that these past 6 or 8 weeks have been CRAZY busy. So crazy, that I am begging to have a weekend of “nothing”  but for some reason…that NEVER seems to happen. As Guinness is constantly pointing out to me when I get a little b*tchy “This is our life Blue Moon, so suck it up and go on!” She is so right..I just hate telling her that sometimes. hehehe
 
So lets see, in the past 8 weeks Guinness and I have had a lot going on!  We bought a new trailer but guess where it was?? MINERAL WELLS, TX! Uh…we dont live close to TX…we live in KY. Nothing is ever easy is it?? So me, Guiness and The Heelin Hottie loaded up and drove straight down….hooked up the trailer…..drove straight back! We actually had a blast, talking and listening to the radio and it was really a quick trip. (side note, if you ask Guinness she will tell you that I blared the stereo and talked very loud when she was trying to sleep but I demanded that she turn the radio down and whisper when I was trying to sleep. This is NOT true and I will deny this till the very end!)
 
When we got back we put our old trailer and our truck online for sale. Uh, the trailer sold in 12 hours and the truck sold in three days!!! Does that EVER happen? I was so glad to sell the rig but a little panicky because we didn’t have a TRUCK!  I hate being truckless! So Guinness and I searched and searched until we FINALLy found the perfect truck. Of course before we actually found the truck, I found a new horsey that I just had to have. Isn’t that how it always works out, I find a new barrel horse and have no way to go get it! Remember? NO TRUCK!  So after being at a USTRC roping ALL day in Indiana, Heelin Hottie and me leave out at midnight for North Carolina in his rig. We got my new pony and headed home. This was a 18 hour round trip……….but so worth it because I LOVE my new horse. We get him home on Tuesday moring around 1:00 am and then on Thursday we buy a truck, finally we found one in INDIANA (at least it is only 2 hours away). Just so you know…..Guinness=VERY PICKY! Friday morning we head out to Western Ky to spend the weekend  sweating our butts off working horses and to also attend a Benefit Roping/barrel race. So to say the least it has been a bit nuts. This weekend I was so excited that I had NOTHING to do and I was going to give every one a break and just relax…….well……that was until I got to work on Monday and remembered that the American Horse Publications Annual Seminar is all weekend………so, there goes the dream of doing nothing! Oh well, I am going to see some great people and enjoy some wonderful converstation/food and possibly learn something. What about that? Me….learn something……crazy, I KNOW! Next weekend, we are off to Indiana for the weekend for some fun with our ponies and good friends and then it is the 4th of July…jeez…..I don’t see a weekend in sight of NOTHINGNESS…but oh well…..I love my life and isn’t that the way it is supposed to be???????

Good Morning OTRR Peeps!!

I thought I would write a review/update from my travels last weekend. This time last week, Guinness, The Heelin Hottie and myself were headed up to Lewisburg, OH to the MVP Dash for Cash show. Guinness and I had attended a MVP Show last October at Circle G and LOVED IT! We had an absolute blast and thought it would be a great way to kick off our season by starting it at another MVP Show. Well…..it was an interesting weekend that is for sure!!!

Friday morning we rolled in around 11:00, got the boys settled in their stalls and went to buy some exhibtions. Guinness was only going to be exhibitioning her horse Roanie and I wanted to get one run in on Dually.  When I saddled Dually up for exhibtions I realized he had a bent shoe. ARRGGHHH!! Brent Puhl was nice enough to put me in contact with a farrier at Circle G and he got him all fixed up. In the meantime Guinness was in the warm up pen with Roanie who was acting RIDICULOUS because Dually was gone. HELLO!! What is THIS all about???????  Guinness went in and had great exhibtions and Dually had a nice run as well.

Friday night I warmed up the D man and went in for my run. This is how it went down:

Announcer: Blue Moon and Dually, the arena is yours!

Me: Kick, Kick, Kick, Smooch, Smooch, Smooch

Dually: UH, HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!! (running backwards, shaking head, planting feet!) NO WAY MOM!!!!!!!

Announcer: Blue Moon and Dually, come on in!!!!!!!

Me: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? SERIOUSLY????

Steps in Guinness………

Guinness: Let me walk him in

Dually settles, walks in and makes a pretty run but very slow. It was almost a full second off of what our last time was in that pen. This is where I start getting concerned. Is he hurting? Is he being an ASS because Roanie is not up at the pen? What is it??? Well at this point, I will just sleep on it and tomorrow is another run, right??????

Friday Night Run, Blue Moon and Dually

Saturday morning: Guinness goes to start the truck………………DEAD, DEAD, DEAD!!!! It won’t even turn over! The Heelin Hottie messes around with it and Guinness and I head off to find a diesel to jump it! We get it jumped, get to the show to feed, and get Guinness ready for exhibtions. Roanie did good in exhibtions and I head off to start the truck to make SURE it will still start……….DEAD, DEAD, DEAD! You have to be KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! The Heeling Hottie decides it is the alternator and gets it jumped again to head out to find a place that can replace it. He finds a tiny garage right past Circle G and pulls in to see if they will fix it. Will they fix it? YES! Will they take a check or a credit card? NO! So now I am on the hunt to figure out how to find a wad of cash. I walked up to the MVP office, told this SWEET, SWEET, SWEET woman my dilema. It actually went something like this:

Me: I have a bit of a problem

Sweet Woman: You do, what is wrong?

Me: My truck has broke down and my boyfriend has left to go get it fixed and they said they would fix it but that I had to pay cash and I dont have any way to get any cash and I have to have my truck ma’am because if I don’t I am going to have ride my horse all the way back to KY and he is acting weird anyway, he may be sore or something and I don’t know if he will make it and then I dont know what I am going to do and blah, blah, blah….there was lots more rambling and run on sentences.

Sweet Woman: Honey, I will personally cash your check, that is no big deal. Just go get your checkbook.

Me: You are the most amazing person I have ever met!!!!!!!!

I skipped off to get my checkbook and when I gave her the check, I secretly looked to see if she had wings or a halo, I didn’t see any but that woman is an ANGEL!

Saturday night: I go in to make my run and Dually ducked the second. OH NO!!!!!! Something is wrong. I had found out that I had made it back to the Finals on Sunday so I still had one more run to make. I worked all over Dually Saturday night and could find nothing. This is so NOT like him!  He didn’t seem sore but he did seem aggitated. Again, I thought…….if this has something to do with him wanting to be with Roanie……….then I feel bad for him.  haha!  The Heeling Hottie made it back with the truck. It sounded GREAT! I was so glad to have him and the truck back at the show. He is truely a great guy to spend THREE days at a barrel race with me and Guinness and on top of that, run around getting the truck fixed. Thanks babe!

Sunday morning: I go in to make my run in the Finals and Dually ducked again. I pulled him up and left the arena. I hauled home very disappointed but worried about my horsey. I have had the vet and the chiro out and we have found out that he has some soreness issues and we are dealing with those.  He is going to be fine and that was my main concern. I was sooooooooo excited about the MVP show and I have to say the show itself was FANTASTIC. The people, the announcer…….everything…..it was all just GREAT! They are having another in June and OTRR will be there, that is for sure.

I learned a good lesson this weekend. No matter how hard you perpare, all the late nights and hauling your ponies up and down the road to get them in shape, anything can happen. You can’t have a good weekend EVERY weekend. Even though I left there a bit disappointed, I have to say……I loved every second of being there!! After all, having fun with your friends, laughing and watching some AWESOME runs and spending time with your most favorite animal on earth………..that is what it is all about!!

Good Morning OTRR Peeps!!
 
Well it is FINALLY gorgeous  here in the Bluegrass. It was gorgeous for about a week and then dropped off cold again and now it seems that Spring may be here to stay. This is always a wonderful time of year in Lexington as I am sure it is in your town as well. The spring meet at Keeneland will be opening in 2 days…..can’t wait for that!!!!!!!  Lots of competitors are getting ready for the spring and summer run in the arenas. I love that in a couple of months we will be running in outdoor pens. I love running outdoors! I don’t know about you guys but this is the time of the year where I start going through all my horsey stuff and purchasing new things for the season. I just purchased my first PHT blanket and I will do a full review after I use it for a couple of weeks. I also will be buying more polo wraps (can’t have enough) and then maybe some new western clothes for ME! So what is the must have for you and your horsey this season?????? What new piece of western fashion can you not live with out??? Leave us a comment or tell us on FB!

Spring in the Bluegrass

Well April is almost upon us and the weather here has finally started to break! We have been able to consistently ride our horses for about a month which has been so great. I just love watching a horse go from a winter coat to a sleek muscled machine. The green grass is finally starting to come in and there are leaves forming on the trees. Winter in Kentucky this year was so dull and we hardly had any sunny days. It is supposed to reach almost 60 this week and I think everyone is so excited about that.

 This is the time of year that I have my planner out daily planning out my summer schedule which includes my workout schedule as well! Anyone else getting back into riding shape? I also love to get a schedule laid out for my horses and what I will do as far as each ride goes. I always feel much more prepared when my horses are in top shape.

I always sort of look at this time of year as the time to make my couch potatoes sprinters! I love watching their cardio increase, their bodies become fit and I know they are ready for the season. I feel that preparation is very important.  I also try to think about what it takes to be an athlete and transfer that to my horses. I want my horses in top condition when they step into the arena. A fit horse is less likely to sustain injury and they are much happier when they are fit and healthy.

What are your workout routines for yourself and your horses?

I am so sick of seeing snow on the ground, so to occupy my time I have been getting all of my stuff ready for the season. I have all my tack out and all my headstalls put together and double checked to make sure they are safe. I got a lot of new working headstalls last year at Congress and put all of that together. I am getting very antsy which usually translates into online shopping!! I need to step away from the computer! I am on a mission apparently to buy all new stuff, which I absolutely do not need but I am bored with being stuck in the house. So.. lets see, I got a new belt, some new Cowgirl Up jeans, bit guards, new tank tops (if the time comes where I ever need one) and I am still looking at other things. I run home everyday to see which package has arrived. Of course I am a bargain shopper and love me some Ebay! It is the greatest, I got a really cute belt for 15.00 and I love it.

Of course my favorite day of the year is coming up in 23 days….DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME! Bring it on, bring it on. I love being able to get lots done after a long days work. I always feel like when I step out of my office, the day is just beginning.
