Did you know about the Horse?
Frontier has some really nice bucking horses. They didn’t bring their “A” string for this rodeo but did bring their “B” string. They only buck these horses around 4 or 5 times a year. Matt Bright had Sisters Best in Corpus Christi, so I was able to get some info on her. I asked the stock contractor about her as well because I heard she jumps about two jumps and then falls down.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? They tied her in the chute but she actually stood pretty good. She bailed out of the chute and turned back for one round and was kicking and felt really good. I was spurring her well and the 2^nd time around she was still kicking good. Then she started to feel like she may go down so I leaned to the left and she fell to the right and slammed me in to the ground. I waited for help and no help came. Finally the pickup man threw a rope around her and helped her get up and I jumped off. I got a reride and that horse name was Good Eye. They didn’t turn the generators on so the arena was pretty dark by the time I rode this horse.  It was actually a good ride, I was thinking a 78 or 79.  I got off and asked the Judge and he said “It sounded real good Scotty but I couldn’t see your it”  He didn’t mark it very good, he gave me a 75, which was one hole out of the money. The good thing is that I rode well and I was still confident and feeling good from the week before.

Which horse did you draw?
 I believe the name of the horse was Plus Sister 

Stock Contractor?
Tom Reeves, Wild Card

Did you know about the Horse?

I actually didn’t know anything about this horse. The Stock Contractor, Tom Reeves,  said that it was a good horse but I have never been to any of his rodeos. Tom Reeves is a World Champion saddle bronc rider.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? I had a brand new attitude about this ride!! The horse really blew out of the chute and then the first two jumps she was kind of rolling around, I held my feet and she jumped up in the air and after that I commenced to spurring her better than I had spurred one in the past couple of years!! This horse was just a great horse for me to be on and I kept spurring her every jump and it felt great. I “thought” that I heard the whistle but I wasn’t absolutely positive, so I just kept spurring and yelled and asked the pickup man if the whistle blew. Haha! I spurred for four more jumps past the whistle. I scored a 79 on that ride and won 2^nd! It felt great!!

Comments about the rodeo? Committee, hospitality, etc.
This rodeo used to be an IPRA Rodeo and for the past two years it has been a PRCA rodeo. The hospitality tent was great! They had every type of pizza you could ever want, it was pretty good. Great rodeo!

 I drew a horse named Miss Kitty

How was your mental outlook going in to this rodeo?

My mental outlook was not good. I really didn’t want to go to this rodeo at all. I had heard that horse was not good and I let myself get negative about it. I should have stayed positive but instead I let negativity sneak in. I hadn’t been riding very well and I was down about that. I know that I should have stayed positive and I learned a good lesson.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would? Well first off my buddies lied! Haha They had said she was weak and she wasn’t weak at all. She was really strong! She blew out of the chute and about the third jump, she popped my elbow really hard, this is what we call “giving you a stinger.” This caused some scar tissue to break away from my elbow and my hand to go numb. I couldn’t squeeze the riggin with a numb hand so therefore I can’t lift on my riggin, which made it impossible to stay on. I lasted about five seconds. I went back to my old riggin this time and it felt great.

Comments about the rodeo? Committee, hospitality, etc.
This is a great rodeo, it is outdoors and the hospitality and committee doing a fantastic job.

I left Claremore with a brand new attitude!! I came in to this rodeo pretty down and negative and left pumped and ready to go. Stay tuned, up next……Conway, Arkansas!

Friday May 8th, I went to The Rodeo On the Ridge in Lafe, Arkansas it was a PRCA rodeo

 I drew a horse named Lilly Pad

The rodeo stock contractor was Classic ProRodeo from Texas
 
How was your horse in the chute?
He wasn’t real bad as far as trying to flip over or anything but he did lay down a couple times
 
Did you learn about the horse before hand?
I had actually had Lilly Pad before. I remember her as a good bucker, she bucked me off the other time I had her.

 
Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

The arena was really muddy. There was about six inches of mud and water in the arena. She stood okay in the chute, not too bad. She bailed out really good and jumped and belly rolled, after about 6 seconds, I got my left foot on top of her neck and didn’t get a hold of her with that foot. She turned right and threw me down.  She basically said “GET OFF NOW” and I did! I didn’t have much say in the matter.

 
Comments about the rodeo? Committee, hospitality, etc.
Great committee and good hospitality tent! They always put on a good rodeo but they just seem to have bad luck when it comes to weather. It seems to always rain but the committee tries real hard to put on a good rodeo and it is always fun.

Anything funny happen at this rodeo?

Oh, I got pulled over after I left the rodeo but I didn’t get a ticket!

The Stock Contractor was Universal Rodeo Company, Mark Johnson.

How was your horse in the chute?

He stood pretty good in the chute. He did have his head down and kept looking towards the back of the chute. He wouldn’t hold his head up so I just called the gate and took him how he was.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?

I saw him at the UT Martin Rodeo three times. I knew the horse well and he was the horse I wanted.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

 He kind of ran out and hopped out and kicked three jumps. He weakened as the ride went on and didn’t try that hard. He as a 16-17 points and he acted like he was tired, he had been bucked a bunch. I scored a 78 and took 2nd for the weekend.

Comments about the rodeo, committee, hospitality, etc.

There wasn’t a hospitality tent at this rodeo but the crown was good and it was a really good rodeo.

How far did you travel to this rodeo?

I traveled three hours to get to this rodeo, I was coming from Martin, TN

Since your month off, what are your plans now?

Rodeo, Rodeo, Rodeo!! That is my plan. I will be going to one rodeo a weekend for the next three weekends and then hitting it hard. I am ready to go, I feel rested, I have been working on my spurring machine and I felt great on this last ride. I feel like I didn’t take any time off. I am really excited about this summer.

Stock Contractor?

The Stock Contractor was 4L Rodeo Company

 How was your horse in the chute?

The horse wasn’t very good in the chute. He tried to jump out when I pulled my riggin. Then he reared up and smashed me in the back of the chute.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?

I knew the horse. I have been on him two times before and never covered.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

The first three jumps were good. He blew out of the gate and was kicking really well. Then he just went to lounging off and got fast and stopped bucking hard. The horse wasn’t a good as he usually is. I covered him and scored a 70 points.  A 78 won the rodeo and a score of 72 drew a check.  

 What’s next for you?

I am going to head home for three weeks. I have some colts that I need to break and I am going to work on some horses’ teeth (I am equine dentist). We have got about 30 bucking horses at home so I am gonna tune up a bit. I am also going to do the P90X Program.
