Date, Rodeo Name and Location

On March 21, I attended the Monroe, LA PRCA Rodeo

 What horse did you draw?

40 Mayday

Stock Contractor?

Stace Smith was the stock contractor but the 40 Mayday was from Brookman Rodeo Company

How was your horse in the chute?

The horse wasn’t too bad in the chute. He was tied in, he jumped around a bit but he wasn’t bad.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?

I knew the horse. I called Matt Smith who had ridden him about 3 months ago and talked to him a bit about the horse. The horse was an NFR horse several years ago so I knew him.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

The horse blew out of the chute and faded to the left. He was bucking good and the ride was going well. I was riding him good. He got to the fence and turned right and that is when he got me at the end of my arm and started jerking on me and I came off.

Up next for Scotty: PRCA Rodeo, Lake City, Florida. Stay tuned……..

I drew a horse by the name of L3 Cash Deal

Stock Contractor?
Frontier Rodeo Company

How was your horse in the chute?
My horse was tied in but he really stood well. He didn’t act up at all.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?
Yeah, Tom McFarland had him and he said he was pretty good horse.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
After he stood so well in the chute, when the opened the gate he jumped out and kind of hopped up in the air. He blew up kind of like a colt would. He didn’t kick very much. I did ride him and scored  73 points. It took 84 to place so I was out of the money.

Comments about the rodeo? committee, hospitality, etc.

This was a good rodeo. The committee supplied water behind the chutes for the rodeo contestants. They also had a hospitality room with good food for us. Over all it was a nice rodeo.

How far did you have to travel to get to this rodeo?

I came 14 hours to get to the rodeo in Okeechobee, Florida on Saturday. I only had to travel about an hour to get to this one. Now I am headed to Austin, TX and Josh Shackleford from Missouri is hauling with me. We have a 19 hour drive.

Which horse did you draw?
I drew a horse by the name of 89 Tar Baby

Stock Contractor?

The stock contractor was Silver Spur Championship Rodeo

How was your horse in the chute?
The horse was good, stood well and didn’t need to be tied in. He ran forward when they pulled the gate.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?
Yeah, I knew the horse. An amateur contractor owned him and I got on him 3 or 4 times at college rodeos. I pulled an 80 something every time I rode him before.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?

This horse blew out strong and hard. A lot harder than I remembered. My foot came down under my riggin and he popped me on to my back. Then he jerked me down and I landed on my head. When I rode him in the past at college rodeos I was riding for $50 or so bucks and covered him. Tonight I was riding for $1500 and he bucked me off.

Comments about the rodeo? committee, hospitality, etc

It was a good rodeo. It was a fair rodeo and it pulled a good crowd. It was a long performance, it was around 3 hours.

How was your horse in the chute?
He wasn’t very good. He likes to lay on the back of the chute. He makes it hard for you to get your hand in your riggin. He reared up three times in the chute.

Did you learn about the horse before hand?
Yes, I knew the horse. He has been to the NFR before so I knew of him.

Tell me about your ride, did you feel strong, did the horse perform the way you thought it would?
I rode him good for the first 3-4 jumps. I spurred him well and it started out a nice ride.  Then he got me in to my arm and my hand started to come out and he bucked me off. He is a strong horse

What is your favorite fast food place while out on the road?

I would have to say Subway because I try to eat healthy when I am traveling.

What would you tell a Rookie starting out in the rodeo world today?

I would tell a rookie to buy a lot of tape! Don’t get down on yourself, stay positive and see the best in every ride. Don’t harp on the negative, rodeo is 90% mental.
