Tracey Goodman PRCA Rodeo Update.. Sikeston, MO

- Tracey Goodman at Fort Smith
Let me start off by saying…why would I enter a left handed horse at a pen like this! lol. Who knows! This is a pretty big pen but I like this rodeo. We were up in slack and the radar was calling for rain. Right before we ran, a HUGE black cloud that covered the entire sky blew up. The wind was blowing so hard…the lights and radar at the arena went off. It was spooky. But somehow, we didn’t get rained on! Biscuit made a decent run. Got past the first a good bit and when he came back on the back side of it, he tripped. 2nd was nice and so was the 3rd but we were a looong ways off!

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
July 25- Philadelphia, Ms. PRCA ~ I love this rodeo. I love the atmosphere around here, the crowd, EVERYTHING! It’s great. Well, Biscuit warmed up great…which is an unusual thing. If he is a well behaved little boy, that can worry me. ha! Anyways, my sister and her fiancé went with me to this rodeo so they could experience this place! They are getting ready to start running us. Now Biscuit is waking up! My sister is leading him around to keep him moving while I’m getting myself ready on the ground. (My little ritual’s that are MUST DO’S.
) Anyways, they call my name. I hop on and send him!! He makes a beautiful run…but catches the 2nd. Somehow, the good Lord was with me and helped me hold that can up. When that barrel finally sat still, the crowd, my sister and the announcer went WILLLLDD!! lol. Everyone thought it was down, including me. We come out with the winning time which made it even more exciting, but later, barely got outran by Jana Jarreau.
Tracey Goodman PRCA Rodeo Update.. Ringgold, GA

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
Date, Rodeo Name and Location.
July 18, 2009. Davis Memorial Rodeo in Ringgold, Ga. PRCA.
Which horse did you run?
I ran the one and only…Biscuit. lol.
How was your warmup? Did you get there in plenty of time to get prepared?
We got there in plenty of time to do just about anything we wanted to do. ha. The warmup went well. He was fine for the first few minutes I was on him. Long trotted and acted like a complete gentleman…then he wanted to break off in to his lunatic act he pulls. When he starts acting like that, I know I have done something right.
How did you feel mentally?
Mentally, I was good to go. The night before, I had taken him to and open rodeo in Mississippi and ran him. He had a smoking run and outran a lot of nice horses by 3 tenths. I knew as long as I did my part, I could make a nice run. Usually if anything goes wrong, I can blame myself for it. He only listens to me.
Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly. Exactly how you felt about it?
Our run was satisfactory to me. He ran really, really hard. Went blowing into the first and peeled the paint off of it. Second and third could have been a little bit prettier but he was flat out rolling and didn’t waste a whole lot of time at them. Didn’t run out as hard as he could have as it was a closed gate that ended in a pretty dark alley. Ya never know what kind of booger-bears can be hanging out in a place like that…especially when we were only there 15 seconds ago. lol.
How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?
The ground was a tad hard but he handled it like a champ. As far as the set up of the whole rodeo, I will be back for years to come. It’s an awesome rodeo with an amazing crowd. Where we warmed up was just a big, open field. Alley wasn’t all that long but it was decent.
Comments about the rodeo?
Very good rodeo. At the opposite end of the rodeo, there is a little old-timey looking town for the spectators. Very neat! Great, FREE food at the concession stand. Heck, they even fed my sweet little hauling partner, Callie (my aussie pup). There was a digital timer up which I love to see at a rodeo. This was a pretty good rodeo as far as competition. The last few holes they paid were stacked right on top of each other. All in all, I’ll be back next year. We didn’t make a lot of money but something is better than nothing.
Anything funny or out of the ordinary happen at this rodeo? (or did you see anything funny, hahah)
Oh gosh, this was one of the funniest trips I have taken lately. My cousin, who doesn’t rodeo, went with me, along with my crazy dog. We stopped in a little town in Alabama to eat at the smallest pizza place in the world. This place is proof that size doesn’t matter…the food was delicious but there was barely room enough for two booths to sit at!! lol. We let Biscuit off the trailer and Callie got to run around and chase a giant ROOSTER that actually scared her. Then, coming into Georgia, there was the scariest bridge I think I have ever crossed in my life. I had to lock the brakes up on the trailer to make it down the hill that led to the one way, two laned bridge that wasn’t quit up to code. lol. Then we led off into a little windy road that GPS so intelligently led us down. I believe we heard banjos playing. Thank goodness we left 5 hours early. :) There were TONS and TONS of stories that I could tell you about this trip but I think I’ll save it for a rainy day.
Tracey Goodman talks to OTRR about her most memorable ride….

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
My most memorable run…that is really tough to decide. It’s hard when you have so many that you just really like. But here goes one. We were at a PRCA in my hometown of Memphis, Tn. There wasn’t anything different about that day except the fact the Biscuit ran harder in that pen than he has ever ran. The meaner and crankier that horse is before a run, the harder he runs. I wanna say that this was the same day I chased him for 30 minutes trying to catch him. It’s a big game we play. If he could talk, he would call it “Let’s not let momma catch me”! Anyways, we were at the bottom of the ground and it was starting to get deep about the 4th or 5th horse. I was 8th out, I believe. Short legs plus deep ground…not a good combo. Ha! Anyways, he goes hauling down the alley, sucks up three cans and the crowd got louder after each turn. He feeds off of that!! A slight bow off of the 3rd barrel and out…the announcer thinks we are about to change the time. We didn’t but was very close. The only bad news was there was a whole other performance the next night. I had to sit through that nail biting experience. I was hanging on to 2nd. After that performance was over, I was still sitting 2nd, filled my permit and put a nice little check in my pocket. Needless to say, I was tickled!!
Tracey Goodman goes MUDDIN' at Jackson, TN PRCA Rodeo

Which horse did you run?
I ran Biscuit. He is my little 4 wheel drive muddin’ machine!!
How was your warmup? Did you get there in plenty of time to get prepared?
Warming up went great. He acted like a perfect gentleman.
Which is unusual for him. We had to warm up close to where my trailer was parked so my mare was at the trailer throwing a fit for him to come back. And my cute little dog was barking for me to come back.
How did you feel mentally?
Mentally, I was bummed because the night before, the perf’s ground was pretty trashy. Slick…not a wet slick, just a hard pan underneath what looked like decent ground. I think just about every horse slipped, tripped or fell. Slack was after the first perf and the ground wound up being really, really good. Over night, it came a flood so lucky me…I ran in knee deep mud without a chance at pulling a check!! IMAGINE THAT!!
Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly. Exactly how you felt about it.
Our run was probably as good as it coulda gotten considering the conditions. I was supposed to be 2nd out but the girl in front of me turned out. Lucky me, I got to run first without seeing anyone else on the ground. I sent him in there NFR-style because I have faith in him!! It was sticky but he was trying his heart out to get through it. Little legs + lots of mud = Me and Biscuit in Jackson, Tn! Anyways, he coulda got a little closer to the 2nd but it wouldn’t have mattered. He tried his best and didn’t clock too bad either. I think a 14.6 won it. Jewels Denapoli with an AWESOME run in slack and we ran a 15.6 in the stinkin’ nasty mud. We were that fastest time in our perf, right behind Marne Loosenort with a 15.5. You cant be mad at that. I wanna say the last whole that got paid was a mid 15. Not too bad but still not paying the fuel bill!!
How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?
MUD, MUD, and more MUD. This is the 3rd rodeo in the month of May that the ground has been the reason for getting beat. It’s hard to compete with girls that have perfect dry ground the night before and you have to run in a mud hole! But hey, that’s rodeo!!
Warmup area is just in between trailers and small openings here and there. There wasn’t really an alley, just wide open, that’s Biscuit’s style there.
Comments about the rodeo?
The rodeo was pretty good all in all. I can’t complain about anything.
Anything funny or out of the ordinary happen at this rodeo? (or did you see anything funny, hahah)
There wasn’t really anything out of the ordinary that happened on this trip. I had left home the night before to stay with a friend of mine that lives in town and we went to watch the first perf and slack the night before our run. We had a great time!! And managed to stay out of trouble!! ![]()
Tracey Goodman PRCA Rodeo Update.. Franklin, TN

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
Date, Rodeo Name and Location
5/15/2009 Franklin, TN. PRCA rodeo.
Which horse did you run?
I ran Biscuit. I need to find me a 16 hand giant if we decide to go next year. This arena is not “Biscuit-friendly”.
How was your warmup? Did you get there in plenty of time to get prepared?
The warm up was great. We had plenty of time to get ready. I think that had a lot to do with it. Biscuit works better if you just hop on him and go.
How did you feel mentally?
Mentally, I was ok. I was a little concerned about the ground seeing as how this was the arena that we fell at last year. He handles all ground great and safteys up on his own most of the time when he needs to. Here, he went all the way down because the ground shifted out from under him. But like every run, I try not to think about what has happened before. Every run is a different trip!
Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly. Exactly how you felt about it.
Well, he was fired up and ready to go. On his back feet that whole way down the LONG, LONG alley, I was trying to hold him up so we didn’t repeat last years run!! Anyways, we go hauling booty in, he sets up, kinda bobbles on the first (all that went through my mind was “Here we go again!!”). Anyways, he recovers, heads to the second, and passes it by a stride! NOT GOOD! The whole run, he looked like Fred Flinstone driving a car. His legs were moving but he wasn’t going anywhere.
Gets to the third, sets up and eases on out. Can we say…WASTE OF MONEY!!
How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?
The ground…not my favorite but I’m sure there were plenty of girls that didn’t have a problem with it. The alley is long and the warm up arena was great. I’m glad they had it opened this year.
Comments about the rodeo?
This is a rodeo that I will definitely miss next year just because my horse doesn’t work well here. The only way I will go back is if someone else does the ground or I have a different horse worth running.
Anything funny or out of the ordinary happen at this rodeo? (or did you see anything funny, hahah)
Well, going up and down the road is always fun. Some friends of mine met us up there and stayed with us most of the weekend. Well, after a night at O’Charleys, we head back to the hotel room to get some rest. We get in the parking lot, make a u-turn in a tight, tight spot and drive up a hill sideways. Now we are in a new Hummer and I’m in the back seat. I just knew that truck was going to flip!! It was sliding sideways down the hill!! Eek…
There were several things that happened that were so, so funny but I can’t seem to remember them right now.
Tracey Goodman on Fixing Problems….

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
When your horse starts giving you problems, is there one person in particular that you may call on to bounce ideas off of or help you fix the issue? Tell us about them!
I am always willing to listen to anyone’s advice, thoughts and tricks. You can never, ever know too much!! There is one good friend of mine that usually gets a phone call from me here and there. I love to hear what she has to say because she is very honest and says exactly what she is thinking!
Tracey Goodman on Mental Toughness..

Tracey Goodman and Biscuit
My secret is to, first of all, don’t be so hard on myself, if I quit having fun doing this, it’s time to find something new to do. My favorite saying is one that my mother always quoted. “That which does not kill you will only make you stronger”. So, so true! Also, I find it easier to think about competing against myself and not all the other girls. I can’t control what happens. All I can do is picture a perfect run in my head and what it takes to get that perfect run to become a reality. When I have to check him, how hard to push him, all of the little steps it takes to create an awesome, winning run!

Which horse did you run?
Mr. Biscuit. And boy am I glad I did. The thought had crossed my mind to take my younger mare and give her some experience, but I’m glad I took Biscuit.
Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly. Exactly how you felt about it.
If I’m not mistaken, there was atleast 7 inches of rain by 10 o’clock that morning. The arena was BAD, BAD wet!! Biscuit went in there harder than I wanted but he stood up the whole time. Sucked those cans up and ran hard in between all of them. I couldn’t have asked for him to work any better for me. We ran a second off of the winning time…ON WET GROUND!
How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?
Of course, like I mentioned earlier, the arena was more than holding water. It looked like a lake. Watching the calf ropers was the best part. Those poor boys…all I’m saying is I’m glad I don’t have to do their laundry. hehe. Alley way…MUD! Warm up area…MUD!! There was nowhere to go and the rain never stopped!
Comments about the rodeo
This is a neat little rodeo to go to. It helps that its ”right up the road” from the house. It’s only about a 2 hour trip. It was kinda miserable this year with all the rain. Last year when we went, there were tornados warnings and watches all over us! Somehow we made it through and wound up 2nd there! But what I like about it…no matter the weather, there are still folks in the stands! Not many…a few handfuls…but it’s nice to know that they wanna watch a good rodeo. Rain or shine!!
Anything interesting happen on the trip there or back?
Nothing to crazy happened. I could feel the swelling in my knee from where Biscuit hit the first. Fortunately, the barrel was suctioned to the ground. IT DIDNT GIVE!! Then I had to ride on a comforter out of the horse trailer because I was soaking wet and muddy! We couldn’t get out because a lovely 18 wheeler parked right behind us. Literally, we could barely load the horses he was so close to the back door. Then a HUGE rig was stuck in front of us. We had nowhere to go! My hauling partner/future sister in law almost backed over me….hmm…what else. That’s about it!!
What CD is in your cd player in your truck right now???
A mixed CD of Samantha’s was the last thing we were jammin’ to. We are usually so pumped heading out, and then dragging on the way home! We have to have our “power music” to keep us going!!

Which horse did you run?
I ran Biscuit…ole Faithful!!
Tell me about your run, the good the bad and the ugly, exactly how you felt about it?
About the run…well, I have nothing bad to say about this one. He worked his heart out and it paid off. The only thing, he coulda tightened up on was his typical bowing off of the 3rd. He does is almost every time though but this time wasn’t that bad. The good…well he sucked up every can, including the first. I am left with a knot on my knee from where he tipped it. I just watched it as we closed it off thinking “You better not fall barrel!!” lol.
How was the ground, alley, warm up area, etc?
The ground was really good. It usually is at Memphis, no matter what they are having. The alley way was super tight because all of the girls were trying to stay outta the rain. It rained so hard all night! Luckily we had a covered pen lit up to warm up in. If not…I don’t think any of us woulda made it. lol.
We were the first out. Well, my usual routine on Biscuit is an easy warm up and then hand walking him the rest of the time. He is usually running circles around me. I have to literally stick his nose in a corner and climb on. Then turn around and shoot him down the alley. Well, right before they called my name, he stops to use the restroom!! Now I have to wait on him. lol. I yelled for the announcer to stall for a minute because Biscuit was gonna take his precious time!!
Comments about the rodeo.
This rodeo (Bulls and Barrels) was for a really good cause. It was a Christian based event and free admission for everyone. There was a HUGE crowd! Earlier, before it had started, there was a long table set up in the arena for the contestants to sign autographs and talk to the kids and take pictures. My poor little hand was worn out after that but it makes your heart feel good to see kids so happy!!
Anything interesting happen on the trip there or back?
Nothing really interesting happened seeing as how I was only 30 minutes up the road from the arena. lol. But Biscuit and I didn’t really see eye-to-eye on the whole being caught thing! He wanted me to chase him across a 25 acre pasture. Not hardly!! Not me! Maybe I woulda chased him on the the 4 wheeler. Not in the Luchesse’s though. haha.
What CD is in your cd player in your truck right now???
I think there is some BLACK BETTY in there. And maybe a little Jamie Johnson! Gotta love my J.J.
