Amber Moore Takes Round 4 in the Barrels of the 2017 National Finals Rodeo

What an interesting round of barrel racing!
I hate to see so many horses going down and struggling with the ground in Round 4. You know these horses have been on all different types of ground by the time they make it to the Thomas and Mack and it’s hard to see the ground being an issue on the biggest stage in rodeo.
I really gives these girls so much credit to go flying down the alley to the first barrel when you know a horse has just fallen down before you. In 2012 Sherry Cervi and Stingray took a fall in Round 6 and Lindsay Sears had to make a run behind her on Martha. I talked to Lindsay about what it takes to make a confident run after someone before you took a fall. You can read that here.
Watching Stevi Hillman and Truck (Cuatro Fame) hit the panel coming in was scary but she did report that they are gonna be sore but ok and that she just released Truck too soon and it wasn’t his fault.
Amber Moore pulled off the win again…this girl is on fire!!! I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again, her mare is totally a warrior. She handles everything so good! Amber pulled off the win with only one stirrup!
“I knew there had been a lot of girls having trouble on the ground, so I came into my first barrel and I went in and sat her (my horse, Paige) and asked her to sit really hard and she did,” Moore said. “Somehow, I managed to blow my inside stirrup, so going across to two I’m fishing for it and I can’t find it, and then I’m going to three and I still can’t find it. I just said, ‘Oh well, sit hard on the third and don’t come off.'”
Her fifth buckle won at the WNFR came on a significant day. “Today is my daughter’s 26th birthday, so I guess Paige gave her a happy birthday present,” Moore said. “I will give this buckle to her.” (courtesy of the PRCA)
Tiany Schuster, who finished the regular season first, still leads all barrel racers with $260,378.
I know Tiany had a horse change last night and brought out Show Mance. They clocked in on Round 4 with a 14.34. This horse set an arena record at Calgary this year. Did you see it? Here it is:
Ivy Conrado looked great last night, her and Jlo (KN Fabs Gift of Fame) had a fantastic run. Those two really are a beautiful pair!
Taci Bettis smoked those three barrels and came in third with a 13.59.
Nellie Miller and her horse Rafter W Minnie Reba (Sister) are just phenomenal. That mare is so consistent and handles the ground flawlessly. I love how Nellie just let’s her work! Nellie is currently sitting second in the Average. Here is the round in case you missed it!
It was also Gold Night in honor of barrel racer Nancy Hunter and her campaign Glitter like Gold. Some wore purple as well for pancreatic cancer awareness. Nancy Hunter was an amazing barrel racer and a wonderful person to interview. She was always so gracious! Find some of our entries on Nancy Hunter here.
