WPRA Barrel Racer Taci Bettis is heading to her first National Finals Rodeo

Taci Bettis qualified for her first National Finals Rodeo in the 8th position. She is also the 2017 WPRA Rookie of the Year! Read below to learn more about Taci!

Please tell us about your year!

I set a goal to try and make the Texas Circuit finals and win Rookie of the year. Before I left for the summer I had the circuit finals made so I was just going out to experience the (summer run) never knew I would have a chance at making the finals. I only had 19k won when we left. I didn’t want to set a goal so high that maybe I couldn’t accomplish the first year. 

Tell us a bit about the horse you will be taking with you to Vegas and what makes them special?
9yo Bogies Is a Smash, he’s the one that got us to Vegas.  
7yo LK Sheza Hayday (owned by Tammy Fischer) I ran her some in the fall of 2016 when Smash was out with an injury. 
6yo Bogies French Bug he’s the backup I had out there this summer with me.
You will be making 10 runs in 10 days. How will you prepare your horse before the run each night and what will you do to take care of him/her after the run?
Just keep doing what I’ve been doing all year. We take tip top care of them. Icing legs after they run, wrapping them etc, we do what we can to keep them feeling their be
What are you most excited about  going in to your first NFR and what are you most nervous about?
I just want to take this all in and experience it. It’s every little girls dream to run down the alley of the T&M. We have worked hard for this. I’m excited to get a chance to run against the best girls and horses going down the rodeo trail right now.
What advice would you give to someone that is wanting to make their dream of making the NFR come true?
Never give up. Keep at it even on the rough days. Your hard work will pay off. I count my blessing everyday for this opportunity.
